Safely Do Your Visual Inspections Between Professional Visits...
Your roof is one of the quiet heroes of your home-keeping you safe, dry, and cozy. But even heroes need a little attention now and then. Before you wait for a surprise leak or other costly damage, take a few minutes to check in on your roof with these simple DIY Tips. They are quick, easy, practical, and totally worth it. OR, you can hit Forest up for your yearly zero-cost roof inspection...that even includes documentation and photos for your peace of mind!

Forest is using his ladder, Cougar Paws Boots, and Pitch Hopper for a safer roof inspection in Oklahoma City. You can do it safely from the ground :) These roof shingles have lost their grip. It's difficult to spot things like this from the ground, so get a professional to check periodically to make sure your roof is staying loyal to its purpose.
DIY Checks Between the Professional Visit
1-Look for missing, curling, or lifted shingles.
2-Check for shingle granules collecting in the gutters (a little is normal...a lot is not).
3-Look for flashing separation (flashing is thin pieces of metal -usually aluminum or galvanized steel-that are installed on your roof to keep water from sneaking into places it shouldn't. They are usually around chimneys, skylights, roof, valleys, roof edges, and vents.) Even small gaps or cracks can let water in.
4-Look for dark streaks or patches on your shingles. Sometimes it's harmless dirt, but it could be algae or other growth that shouldn't be there. If you are unsure-just pop the photo over to Forest. His number is on this website.
5-Make sure your gutters are clear so water flows freely. Blocked gutters can lead to water sneaking under shingles and causing damage, including wood rot.
6-Check for creases in your shingles. This lets you know wind has blown them and lifted them up...your shingles likely need some repair as they have lost their grip on the roof.
7-Look for signs on the inside. Check ceilings and attic for water stains. Sometimes problems show up before you see them outside.
You Can Do It!
Remember, roofs don't talk, but they sure give hints. A little peak here and there keeps them happy, your home safe, and your wallet, smiling. And if it's been more than a few years since a trusted professional has taken a look, it's a good idea to get it checked-most companies do it for free, and we always enjoy the little Google review afterward! Forest would be happy to swing by, make sure your roof is in tiptop shape, and give you those photos and documentation for your peace of mind.
